In an attempt to manage your expectations please read my entire description below and ask as many questions as you like. These are made to suit models from 1978 to 1985. Please message me with the size and colour you require at check out. (I can cater for most RAL colours that are available, I cant do metallics). This listing is for one tank only. The surface finish of these tanks are as pictured which is very good as they are straight out of a mould. If you require a better mirror finish then a good flat and polish is all that is required as they are made using two coats of thick gel coat. Please note that the tanks are made using two halves (inner and outer) which are bonded together. The bond line is painted afterward by hand with coloured gel coat. This will never be perfect due to the nature of the process. Other tanks that are available by other companies do not come with the seam line painted at all which looks a little untidy in my opinion. If you intend to use this as a show piece all I can suggest is that the tank will need to be painted afterwards to make the seam line perfect. For the 99% of people out there that intend on using there bike the finish as pictured should be more than adequate. These tanks are hand made from several layers of fibreglass using a chemical resistant Scott Bader Crystic 199 resin to resist modern fuels that contain alcohol. They are bonded together using Scott Bader Crystic 199 and Scott Bader. Scott Bader is one of the leading manufacturers of grp resins in the world and one of very few that list this resin as suitable for fuel tank use. Virtually all other resins on the market will break down and be eaten away over a period of time by the ethanol contained in modern fuel. Some other tank suppliers who have used inferior resins have experienced gumming of the tanks and carbs as the fuel breaks down the resin. I’ve been there already. Tanks are fully trimmed ready to fit onto existing front rubbers (the fit is tight to ensure it is held securely, rubbers should be lubricated with silicone or washing up liquid before installation). The underside of both sizes of tank are recessed for larger carb clearance when using larger engines or inlet manifolds that kick the carb out to the side. If you are using a 28mm carb or larger I would suggest using the larger +2 tank. For engines running up to a VM26 carb the standard dimension tank works fine. The larger tank is 2 wider overall than a std steel tank and holds more fuel to off balance the clearance underneath for the carb. You will not be able to fit a larger carb using a std steel tank unless you use a modified inlet manifold or cut and modify the tank. A stainless steel insert is bonded into the tank to ensure it keeps a good thread. Simply apply some thread sealant or PTFE tape when installing to avoid leaks. These tanks are made to accept the original Honda bayonet twist gas cap, (Not supplied). As an additional feature a small piece of stainless tube is bonded into the neck of the tank to reduce splash back as per most oem tanks. I have these made locally at a Fibreglass specialist with over 40 years in the business, they fit all my work in and around larger jobs mainly making fair ground rides. If you are in a hurry then look elsewhere at an alternative supplier. I have a regular Monday to Friday 9 to 5 office job that pays the bills, this is just a hobby for me. Here is some of the recent feedback I have received about my fibreglass products. Excellent quality; nice gel coat finish; exactly as described; recommend highly.
